Lubbock, TX — A firefighter is recovering after being hospitalized for heat exhaustion while battling a house fire in central Lubbock Tuesday night.
According to Lubbock Fire Rescue, crews responded around 8 p.m. to reports of heavy smoke coming from a home near 18th Street and Avenue V.
Firefighters entered the residence and began suppression operations, but conditions inside the home worsened shortly afterward.
The Incident Commander ordered crews to evacuate the structure and transition to defensive firefighting operations.
Lubbock Fire Rescue said one firefighter was transported to UMC for treatment of heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office.
