Plano, TX — Two 14-year-old boys were taken into custody and two stolen vehicles were recovered following an Aug. 6 incident that also involved an 8-year-old child, according to the Plano Police Department.

Patrol officers were called to the 2300 block of East Parker Road after an Auto Crimes detective received information that a previously reported stolen vehicle was at the location.

As the first officer arrived, the vehicle was reportedly attempting to leave the parking lot. Police said a 14-year-old boy was driving and an 8-year-old child was riding as a passenger.

When the officer attempted to catch up with the vehicle, police said it accelerated to speeds of up to 60 mph while traveling east on East Parker Road. The vehicle eventually entered a neighborhood and stopped, where the 14-year-old driver was taken into custody.

During the investigation, another 14-year-old boy — identified by police as the 8-year-old child's older brother — arrived on foot.

Police said the teen initially claimed he had walked approximately 3½ miles to the scene. Officers questioned the account because he was wearing long pants and a shirt and was not sweating despite temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.

Further investigation determined the second teen had allegedly driven another vehicle that had also been reported stolen, parked it in a nearby parking lot and then walked to the location of the traffic stop, according to police.

Both 14-year-olds were taken into custody for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The 8-year-old child was released to his mother after she arrived at the scene.

The two recently stolen vehicles were recovered.

Because the suspects are juveniles, their names were not released.

Charges are accusations, and the juveniles are presumed innocent unless adjudicated otherwise in court.
