Texas — The Texas Animal Health Commission is highlighting its history, which dates back to 1893 when the agency was established as the Texas Livestock Sanitary Commission.
At the time, the agency was tasked with helping eradicate the cattle fever tick.
Today, the agency operates as the Texas Animal Health Commission and continues working to protect livestock health across the state.
According to TAHC, its mission includes protecting:
• Cattle
• Swine
• Poultry
• Sheep and goats
• Equine animals
• Exotic livestock
The commission works to protect Texas livestock from domestic, foreign and emerging diseases and pests.
