North Texas – A multi-agency task force serving several North Texas counties is working across jurisdictional lines to combat vehicle theft, vehicle burglaries and organized motor vehicle crime.

The Northern Collin/Denton County Auto Theft Task Force was first awarded grant funding from the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority in fiscal year 2025.

The task force brings together law enforcement partners from the Prosper Police Department, Collin, Cooke and Denton counties, and southern Grayson County. The effort also includes the Texas Department of Public Safety, federal partners and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

Investigators focus on motor vehicle crimes including:

• Vehicle theft
• Vehicle burglary
• Organized auto crime activity
• Repeat offenders

The task force conducts targeted enforcement, interdiction and suppression operations while also using crime analysis and investigations that can extend across jurisdictional boundaries.

In addition to enforcement efforts, the task force conducts 68-A vehicle identification inspections and provides public education aimed at helping vehicle owners reduce their risk of becoming victims.

According to the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority, the task force plans to expand its partnerships in the coming year as it continues building its regional presence across North Texas.
