Lorena, TX — A grass fire that began from an escaped controlled burn threatened several residences Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of Dalrex Road, according to the Lorena Fire Department.
Crews were dispatched around 12:23 p.m. and arrived within 10 minutes to find an approximately two-acre grass fire spreading toward nearby homes. Firefighters also found a detached shed fully involved in flames next to a vacant residence.
Firefighters immediately began suppression efforts and had the fire contained and under control by 12:41 p.m. The fire was completely extinguished by 1:02 p.m.
Lorena Fire responded with five units and nine personnel. Mutual aid was provided by:
• Bruceville-Eddy Fire
• Hewitt Fire
• Robinson Fire
Those agencies added four units and seven personnel.
The Lorena Police Department and McLennan County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
Fire officials determined the blaze originated from a controlled burn that escaped containment.
McLennan County is currently under a BURN BAN.
Residents are being urged to follow all burn-ban restrictions and take precautions to reduce wildfire risks around homes and property.
All fire units cleared the scene by 3:01 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
