Comal County, TX – A 45-year-old Edinburg man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony DWI and drug possession charges, according to the Comal County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Cirilo Zambrano III pleaded guilty June 22, 2026, to Driving While Intoxicated with Two or More Previous Convictions and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, less than one gram of methamphetamine.

Judge Gary Steel of the 274th District Court sentenced Zambrano to 30 years in prison. Prosecutors said his punishment range was enhanced under habitual-offender provisions because of previous convictions for felony DWI, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest with a vehicle in Wharton and Hidalgo counties.

The case stems from Sept. 20, 2025, when Comal County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1400 block of Bulverde Road for a report of an unresponsive man inside a vehicle. Authorities said Zambrano was found unconscious in the driver’s seat while the vehicle was still running.

During the investigation, deputies reported finding a glass pipe containing methamphetamine residue on the driver’s-side floorboard and multiple torch lighters. Authorities also learned Zambrano had an outstanding Cameron County warrant for DWI third or more.

Zambrano was taken to a hospital, where authorities obtained a search warrant for a blood specimen after he refused to voluntarily provide one. Prosecutors said testing later showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.197, more than twice Texas’ legal limit of 0.08.

The case was investigated by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Laurie Nield and Pawandeep Singh.
