San Marcos, TX – Residents may notice a heavy police presence and hear simulated gunfire and other loud noises as law enforcement conducts planned training at the former Irene K. Mendez Elementary School.
According to San Marcos Emergency Services, San Marcos Police Department officers and the Hays County SWAT Team are using the building for realistic, scenario-based training before it is demolished.
The training is underway and will continue through Wednesday. A large number of police and emergency vehicles may also be visible around the property.
Officials emphasized there is no emergency. The activity is part of planned law enforcement training.
