Brenham, TX – The Brenham Police Department and Texas Rangers are investigating a shooting that left a 25-year-old Brenham man dead early Sunday morning.
According to Brenham police, officers responded at approximately 2:29 a.m. on August 16 to a reported weapons-related incident in the 800 block of Pleasantview Avenue.
When officers arrived, they learned a shooting had occurred and found Laterius Ragston, 25, suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures while awaiting additional medical assistance.
Ragston was transported for a higher level of medical care but later died from his injuries despite efforts by officers and medical personnel.
The Brenham Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit and Texas Rangers are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
As part of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a location in Hempstead. The operation included assistance from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Hempstead Police Department, Austin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Teams and Washington County EMS.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.
