Conroe, TX — A family violence incident involving a firearm led to a SWAT standoff and the arrest of a 42-year-old man Saturday night, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 9 p.m. August 15 to the 9000 block of Chimney Swift Lane after receiving a report of family violence involving a weapon.

According to MCSO, Joseph Andre Baumbach, 42, assaulted family members and displayed a firearm during the incident. Authorities said Baumbach has prior felony convictions. The family was able to leave the residence and contact law enforcement.

Baumbach then barricaded himself inside the home and refused to surrender, prompting the activation of the MCSO SWAT Team, Drone Team and Crisis Negotiation Team.

The sheriff’s office said deputies deployed countermeasures to gain compliance, and Baumbach ultimately surrendered without further incident. No citizens or law enforcement personnel were injured during the standoff.

Baumbach was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Aggravated Assault. MCSO said he is being held without bond.

Charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
