South Texas — Four New Waverly Fire Department wildland firefighters are assisting with the Dos Pistolas Fire while facing temperatures above 100 degrees and heat index values reaching into the 110s, according to the department.

The firefighters were deployed to South Texas with the department’s Tender/All Track unit, specialized equipment designed to support wildfire operations in difficult terrain.

The setup includes a water tender pulling a trailer carrying an Alltrack AT-50HD Brush Track all-terrain crawler.

The tracked unit carries a 500-gallon water and foam tank and is equipped with a front forestry blade and a 15,000-pound electric winch. Its low ground-pressure tracks allow firefighters to reach terrain that may be inaccessible to standard fire engines.

The department said the unit can operate independently or as part of a larger coordinated wildfire response.

The assignment is also putting crews to work under extreme conditions, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and feels-like temperatures climbing into the 110s.
