Texas — The Texas Education Agency released its 2026 A–F accountability ratings Friday, providing new performance grades for public school districts, charter systems and campuses across the state.

While Texas school systems showed improvement overall, 20 received an F — the state’s lowest accountability rating.

Under the TEA system, an overall score of 59 or below receives an F.

Among traditional public school districts, Malone ISD in Hill County recorded the lowest overall score at 44.

The district experienced one of the most significant year-over-year changes in the statewide data, falling from a B with a score of 88 in 2025 to an F with a score of 44 in 2026.

Traditional Texas districts receiving an F in 2026:

• Malone ISD — 44

• Hubbard ISD — 52

• Prairie Lea ISD — 52

• Morgan Mill ISD — 53

• Roscoe Collegiate ISD — 57

• Wharton ISD — 58

• Hallsburg ISD — 59

• Uvalde CISD — 59

Open-enrollment charter systems accounted for another 12 F ratings.

The lowest score among all school systems was recorded by Celebrate Dyslexia Schools, a Bexar County charter system, which received an F with an overall score of 41.

Despite the F ratings at the bottom of the statewide results, Texas’ broader numbers improved.

The number of school systems receiving an F fell from 34 in 2025 to 20 in 2026, while the number receiving a D dropped from 130 to 78. The number earning an A increased from 170 to 196.

TEA’s accountability system considers Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps when determining overall ratings.

Parents and residents can search individual district and campus results through the state’s TXSchools.gov accountability database.
