Dallas, TX — A traffic stop involving a Dodge Charger traveling the wrong way on a one-way street without headlights led Dallas police to recover a large amount of police equipment and arrest the driver on an Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle charge.
According to the Dallas Police Department, Central Business Division officers observed the white Dodge Charger at approximately 2:10 a.m. Aug. 10.
Officers approached the driver and reported that he was sweating heavily and unable to operate the vehicle’s headlights.
Police said officers could see uniforms, police equipment, emergency lights and a dash camera inside the vehicle. The driver was also known to officers from previous contacts in the area and was not the vehicle’s registered owner.
He was initially arrested for multiple traffic violations.
Police Equipment Recovered:
During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers reported finding:
• A police badge
• Multiple police-issued shirts
• Approximately 500 rounds of duty ammunition
• Multiple bulletproof vests
• Emergency equipment and other official gear
Police said the recovered items bore the name of the vehicle’s registered owner, identified as a Dallas College Police Department Sergeant.
Investigators contacted the Sergeant, who reportedly did not know that the vehicle was missing.
Police said video footage later showed the driver entering the vehicle approximately one hour before officers stopped him.
The driver was subsequently arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in addition to the traffic violations. All recovered property was returned to the Sergeant at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing under Case #116802-2026.
The charges are accusations. The arrested individual is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
