Travis County, TX — Newly released video shows the end of a pursuit involving Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Austin police on Saturday, Aug. 8.

According to DPS, Capitol Region Troopers were assisting the Austin Police Department with a pursuit involving an assault suspect and a possibly stolen vehicle.

Authorities said the suspect had rammed an APD patrol vehicle before fleeing. During the pursuit, the driver allegedly traveled on the wrong side of the roadway while continuing to evade officers.

As the pursuit approached the U.S. 290 service road near Decker Lane, a DPS Capitol Region Sergeant intercepted the vehicle and performed a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT maneuver, bringing it to a stop.

DPS said the driver then ran from the vehicle but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. A Taser was used before the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect was charged with:

• Leaving the Scene of a Crash
• Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle
• Driving While Intoxicated

DPS said the incident involved coordinated efforts between its troopers and Austin police to bring the pursuit to an end.

The charges are accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
