Caldwell County, TX — Two separate grass fires near Luling were contained after one escaped from a controlled burn and another apparently started from an electrical spark, according to the Caldwell County Constable’s Office, Precinct 2.
The first fire, just east of U.S. 183 north of Luling, began as a small controlled burn before wind pushed the flames into extremely dry vegetation, causing the fire to rapidly grow.
Firefighters prevented the flames from reaching a nearby travel trailer and helped avoid additional property damage.
A second grass fire was reported not long afterward off Salt Flat Road, south of Lockhart. Officials said that fire appeared to have started from an electrical spark associated with a power line. The landowner was already attempting to extinguish the flames when responders arrived, and firefighters contained the fire to a relatively small area before it could spread.
The Luling Volunteer Fire Department and Mid-County Fire/Rescue ESD assisted with the responses.

Officials are urging residents to use extreme caution with outdoor burning, welding, equipment that produces sparks, discarded cigarettes, trailer chains that could drag along roadways, and other activities capable of igniting dry grass.
Officials said the lack of rainfall, high temperatures and extremely dry vegetation mean even a small spark or flame can be enough to start a fast-moving fire.
