San Antonio, TX — A 56-year-old San Antonio attorney was arrested Wednesday after Texas Department of Public Safety investigators executed a search warrant at his downtown law office, according to arrest affidavits and DPS.
Neil Calfas, an attorney with Calfas Law Group, faces charges of Human Trafficking and Solicitation of Prostitution.
Texas DPS Criminal Investigations Division agents were seen Wednesday morning at the firm’s office in the 100 block of Broadway near East Houston Street.
According to one arrest affidavit, investigators allege Calfas coerced a woman into sexual conduct by promising to provide legal assistance for her jailed brother.
The affidavit cites recorded jail phone calls and interviews that investigators say support the allegation. Investigators further allege that Calfas ultimately did not provide the legal representation he had promised.
A separate warrant alleges Calfas offered to pay a woman in exchange for sex.
According to that affidavit, investigators reviewed a screen-recorded Snapchat video depicting a sexual encounter. Afterward, the man shown in the recording was allegedly seen handing over what investigators believed appeared to be cash.
Calfas’ bond was set at $110,000.
DPS said the investigation remains ongoing.
The charges and allegations are accusations. Calfas is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
