Austin, TX — Austin police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning in the 800 block of Camino La Costa as a SWAT response and shelter-in-place order remain active in the St. Johns area.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers were on scene around 9 a.m. Aug. 12 and instructed residents in the immediate area to remain inside until further notice.

APD later confirmed that an officer-involved shooting had occurred. No information has yet been released about injuries, the circumstances leading to the shooting or the individuals involved.

Traffic Impact:

The Texas Department of Transportation’s Austin District reported that all northbound I-35 frontage road lanes are closed after U.S. Highway 290 because of police activity.

Motorists should avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Active Scene:

Residents within the shelter-in-place area should remain indoors and follow instructions from law enforcement. Drivers approaching the area should not enter road closures or attempt to bypass emergency vehicles and barricades.

APD said details regarding a media briefing have not yet been announced.
