Houston, TX — Houston police are searching for five masked suspects after a 29-year-old man was shot multiple times during a confrontation inside an open garage in southeast Houston early Wednesday morning.
The shooting occurred around midnight in the 9900 block of Tiltree Street.
According to Houston police, the 29-year-old man and his 22-year-old girlfriend were sitting inside the garage with the door open when five masked individuals approached the property.
Investigators believe the group walked along the side of the yard before approaching the front of the home and entering the garage. Police said the first suspect to enter was carrying what was described as a short-barreled rifle and began yelling at the man.
The woman ran inside the residence, locked herself in another room and hid. Police said the remaining four suspects then entered the garage and a fight followed.
Investigators believe 20 or more shots were fired during the confrontation.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his neck, arm and side. Houston Fire Department crews transported him to a hospital in critical condition, although police said he is expected to survive. His girlfriend was not injured.
Officers recovered two firearms and numerous shell casings from the scene. Investigators have not yet determined who fired the weapons or whether the victim also fired during the confrontation.
All five masked suspects fled the property on foot following the shooting.
Police have not determined what prompted the attack or whether the suspects intended to rob the couple or specifically targeted the victim.

Residents near the 9900 block of Tiltree Street are being asked to review home surveillance footage recorded around the time of the shooting. Investigators believe cameras in the neighborhood may have captured the suspects approaching or fleeing the property.
