Dallas, TX — A 5-year-old child was ejected from a vehicle and hospitalized after a crash Tuesday afternoon in Dallas’ Pleasant Grove neighborhood involving a man who allegedly fled from police.
According to an arrest affidavit, Dallas police responded around 4:45 p.m. Aug. 11 to the 10300 block of Elam Road after a woman reported that her boyfriend, 54-year-old Ronnie Alcaraz, had knives and was threatening to kill her.
The affidavit states Alcaraz was intoxicated and allegedly struck the woman on the head, pulled her hair, threatened her and attempted to pin her against their home with his vehicle. He also allegedly threw away her phone as she tried to call 911.
Police said Alcaraz left when he heard approaching sirens and drove away after officers arrived and ordered him out of the vehicle.
Authorities said he traveled at a high rate of speed into the intersection of Elam Road and N. Masters Drive, where his vehicle collided with three others.
A 5-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles was ejected during the crash. According to the arrest affidavit, the child was transported to a hospital and remained in the Intensive Care Unit.
Alcaraz was arrested at the crash scene and charged with:
• Evading Causing Serious Bodily Harm
• Aggravated Assault — Family Violence
• Interference With an Emergency Call
The affidavit also states Alcaraz had outstanding warrants in Rains County for making a terroristic threat.
He was booked into the Dallas County Jail, where his bond was set at $55,000.
The charges and allegations are accusations. Alcaraz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
