Wichita County, TX — Fire officials responded to a blaze near U.S. 287 and Bell Road Monday afternoon as authorities reminded residents that extreme heat and dry conditions can allow a small spark to quickly become a dangerous fire.

According to the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Park Volunteer Fire Department, Wichita West Volunteer Fire Department and the Wichita County Emergency Management Office responded and worked to bring the fire under control.

Wichita County sheriff’s deputies assisted by directing traffic during the response.

Fire Safety Reminder:

Residents are urged to use extra caution when:

• Mowing
• Welding
• Using equipment capable of creating sparks
• Towing trailers with chains that could drag along the roadway

Authorities emphasized that even a single spark can ignite a fire under current hot conditions.
