Hunt County, TX — A large grass fire fueled by high winds and a rapid rate of spread burned 76 acres and destroyed more than 100 hay bales Tuesday afternoon, prompting a multi-agency response in the Wolfe City Fire Rescue district.
According to the Celeste Volunteer Fire Department, Station 23 was requested for mutual aid at approximately 3:15 p.m. Wolfe City firefighters arrived to find more than 30 acres already burning, with high winds contributing to the fire’s rapid spread.
A second alarm was called, bringing additional resources to the scene.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within approximately an hour of the first arriving company. Celeste VFD reported its crews operated for about three hours before clearing the scene.
