Galveston, TX — A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a shooting that left another man wounded early Monday.
According to the Galveston Police Department, officers responded to the 2900 block of Avenue L at approximately 1:25 a.m. Aug. 10 after receiving reports of a shooting and a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
During the investigation, officers detained two suspects at a residence in the 1200 block of 29th Street. Shortly afterward, officers received another call regarding a man with a gunshot wound near 28th Street and Avenue J.
Officers located the victim suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was transported to the UTMB Emergency Department and was listed in fair condition.
Investigators determined the victim had been involved in an altercation with one of the suspects previously detained. Police allege that Mitchell Willis, 22, fired a handgun twice, striking the victim.
Investigators also recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Willis was arrested and booked into the Galveston County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police listed a recommended bond of $150,000.
An arrest and criminal charge are not evidence of guilt. Willis is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
