Bexar County, TX — A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after accepting a plea agreement on a lesser charge in connection with the stabbing death of his father nearly six years ago.
Christian Rodriguez was sentenced Monday after pleading to aggravated assault with a weapon in Judge Joel Perez’s 437th Criminal District Court. Rodriguez had originally been charged with murder, but that charge was waived as part of the plea agreement.
The case stems from a September 2020 incident in the 25000 block of Whistling Acres in north Bexar County.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded after a neighbor discovered Jorge Rodriguez suffering from multiple stab wounds.
When deputies arrived, authorities said Christian Rodriguez had barricaded himself inside a back room with a knife.
Negotiators and a mental health unit eventually made contact with Rodriguez and convinced him to leave the room, drop the knife and surrender.
Jorge Rodriguez was later pronounced dead.
Rodriguez will serve a 30-year prison sentence under the plea agreement.
