Burnet County, TX — A fast-moving brush fire near Bertram that prompted evacuations Sunday burned approximately 300 acres before crews achieved 100% containment by Monday evening, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Firefighters responded Sunday afternoon as flames spread through the area. Horseshoe Bay Fire Department reported that Brush and Battalion 11 joined the south end task force, while a Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System strike team was also called in to assist.
An evacuation alert was issued around 3 p.m. Sunday for approximately 325 people within a one-mile radius of the fire. Residents were notified around 6 p.m. that they could return home, and there are no active evacuations.
No injuries were reported and no homes were lost. One barn was destroyed. The Texas A&M Forest Service credited local fire departments with protecting structures threatened by the flames.
By Monday morning, officials reported no active fire and minimal smoke as crews continued securing containment lines and extinguishing hot spots within the perimeter.
The fire was determined to have been caused by open debris burning.
