Richmond, TX — A residential fire in Richmond was caused by multiple direct lightning strikes to the home Monday morning, according to the Richmond Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at approximately 11:44 a.m. Aug. 10 to the 8700 block of Smiley Court, where crews arrived to find an active fire in the attic.

The fire was quickly brought under control with assistance from Rosenberg Fire Department, Sugar Land Fire Department, Stafford Fire Department, Pecan Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Northeast Fort Bend County Fire Department, Fulshear Simonton Fire – ESD 4 and Fort Bend County EMS.

According to Richmond Fire Department, weather data showed the home received several direct lightning strikes shortly before the fire. Officials determined the lightning strikes caused the blaze.

No injuries were reported among firefighters or civilians.
