Gun Barrel City, TX — Multiple fire departments spent approximately four hours battling a hay bale fire Sunday on the State Highway 334 bridge connecting Gun Barrel City and Seven Points.
According to the Gun Barrel City Fire Department, crews responded at approximately 10:33 a.m. Aug. 9 after Seven Points Fire Rescue requested mutual aid for a trailer carrying multiple hay bales that had caught fire.
The trailer was pulled onto the shoulder of the westbound span of the bridge. After firefighters initially knocked down the flames, the trailer was moved to a dirt lot on the north side of the bridge to help prevent damage to the bridge and allow crews to safely unload the burning hay.
Assistant Fire Chief Jason Raney said the semi-trailer was carrying 13 bales of hay. Heavy equipment and firefighters were used to separate the bales before they were thoroughly soaked with water.
Crews from Gun Barrel City Fire Department, Trinidad Fire Rescue, Tool Volunteer Fire Department, Seven Points Fire Rescue and Payne Springs Fire Rescue responded.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control, while the Texas Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.
No injuries were reported among firefighters or civilians.
