Bryan, TX — A Brazos County judge has sentenced Ryan Mitchell to 10 years in prison, the maximum punishment, after revoking his probation following a hearing last week.
According to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, Judge John Brick of the 272nd District Court imposed the sentence Wednesday, Aug. 6, after hearing evidence on the state’s motion to revoke Mitchell’s probation.
Mitchell had been placed on probation in February 2023 after pleading guilty to contacting a victim in violation of a protective order.
The underlying case dates to Aug. 23, 2021, when a woman reported to College Station police that Mitchell repeatedly called her and left two threatening voicemails from a blocked number. Investigators later linked Mitchell to a phone number that had contacted the victim multiple times that day.
Prosecutors said Mitchell later moved to Travis County while on probation.
On June 29, 2025, Austin police responded to multiple reports of a man matching Mitchell’s description allegedly trespassing at a QuikTrip convenience store. Officers located Mitchell in his vehicle, and prosecutors said he attempted to evade officers before eventually stopping and getting out.
According to the DA’s office, Mitchell then aggressively approached an Austin police officer while holding a hammer in his right hand. He was detained and arrested for Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.
During the probation revocation hearing, the court heard testimony from Austin police officers, College Station Police Detective Stephen Schoellman and Mitchell’s Brazos County probation officer.
After hearing the evidence, the court revoked Mitchell’s probation and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
