Austin, TX — An hourslong SWAT response at a North Austin apartment complex ended Monday morning without the suspected shooter being located, according to the Austin Police Department.
Officers were initially dispatched at approximately 1:40 a.m. to the 8200 block of Sam Rayburn Drive after receiving reports of shots fired in an apartment complex parking lot.
Police located a victim with minor injuries and received information indicating that a possible suspect had fled into a nearby apartment. Because a firearm was involved, SWAT responded and established a perimeter while attempting to make contact with the person believed to be inside.
Police had previously emphasized that officers had not confirmed the suspect was actually inside the apartment. That information had come from people in the area rather than direct contact with the suspect.
After an hourslong response, officers searched the apartment but did not find anyone inside. First responders subsequently began clearing the scene.
The suspect, described only as a man possibly in his 30s, remains at large.
Investigators believe the shooting followed an argument in the apartment complex parking lot. Police said preliminary information did not indicate the incident was domestic-related.
