Zavala County, TX — A pedestrian stop early Thursday led to the seizure of more than 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine and the arrest of a man on two felony charges, according to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 2:40 a.m. Aug. 6, Deputy A. Aguilar and Deputy J. Ibarra were conducting routine patrol near East Lake Street and North 4th Avenue when they stopped a pedestrian following multiple traffic violations.
The man was identified as John Paul Juarez.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies saw Juarez discard an object toward a nearby residential property in the 200 block of North 4th Avenue.
Sgt. R. Villanueva responded to assist and searched the area where the object had reportedly been thrown. Authorities said he located a small plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance along with a burnt glass pipe.
The suspected methamphetamine had a preliminary field weight of approximately 10.2 grams. The items were collected and secured as evidence.
Juarez was arrested without incident and transported to the Zavala County Jail. He faces charges of:
• Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1/1-B, 4 to 200 grams — Second-Degree Felony
• Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair — Third-Degree Felony
