Uvalde, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported registered sex offender after authorities said he attempted to illegally reenter the United States near Uvalde.
According to the report, agents encountered 39-year-old Cristobal Cortez Cartagena and two other individuals while conducting train inspections. The three reportedly jumped from a rail car and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended.
A subsequent records check identified Cartagena as a registered sex offender who had previously been deported from the United States twice.
The report also states that Cartagena has a prior criminal history, including a 2010 conviction described as looting.
Cartagena now faces a federal charge of illegal reentry into the United States.
