Uvalde, TX — A large fire at Hacienda Salvage on East Main Street burned approximately 100 vehicles Sunday afternoon after reportedly spreading from a neighboring grass fire, according to information shared by the business owner and Uvalde County Constable Precinct 6 Emmanuel Zamora.
The Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department responded to the salvage yard at approximately 3:50 p.m. after a large column of black smoke became visible across the area.
As crews battled the fire, the Knippa Volunteer Fire Department, Sabinal Volunteer Fire Department and Concan Fire & EMS were requested to provide mutual aid.
According to Hacienda Salvage owner Robert Percy Rowland, a grass fire on a neighboring property got out of control, crossed the salvage yard’s fence and ignited a pile of tires. The fire then spread rapidly amid breezy conditions.
Rowland estimated approximately 100 vehicles had burned and said the fire was believed to be contained. He reported no injuries and said firefighters still had significant work remaining at the property.
The business owner thanked firefighters from Uvalde, Concan, Sabinal and Knippa for their response.
