San Marcos, TX — A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a 32-year-old man was fatally shot multiple times early Sunday morning in San Marcos, according to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 1:58 a.m. Aug. 9 to the 5000 block of Crossover Road following reports of shots fired. While deputies were responding, multiple callers reported additional gunfire and a man down in a driveway.
San Marcos police officers arrived first and found 32-year-old Sergio Raynaldo Mata suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mata was pronounced dead at approximately 2:16 a.m.
Guadalupe County deputies identified 21-year-old Miguel Angel Marquez as the alleged shooter and detained him at the scene.
Authorities said several rounds also struck a vehicle and a residence across the street. An adult man who was inside the residence was not injured.
Following the investigation, Marquez was arrested by Guadalupe County Sheriff’s investigators and booked into the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center on charges of:
• Murder
• Deadly Conduct
The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
