Freeport, TX — Three Vietnamese nationals were detained during a joint maritime operation involving federal and state authorities off the coast of Freeport, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations.

CBP said its Galveston Marine Unit partnered with Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Texas Marine Unit-Freeport during the operation on July 29.

Authorities boarded two outbound commercial shrimp vessels and conducted record checks. According to CBP, three Vietnamese nationals were identified as having Title 8 immigration violations and signed final orders of removal.

Officials said one of the individuals also had an extensive criminal history that included aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

All three individuals were transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations for further immigration enforcement proceedings.
