Fort Bend County, TX — Tesla is evaluating a massive new solar manufacturing facility in Fort Bend County that could bring more than $10 billion in investment and thousands of jobs to the Houston-area region.
According to a Jobs, Energy, Technology and Innovation, or JETI, application filed with the Texas Comptroller, Tesla is considering property within Lamar Consolidated Independent School District for a new facility that could manufacture photovoltaic solar cells and assembled solar modules.
The proposed site is located in the FM 762 corridor near FM 1994 in Fort Bend County.
Tesla lists an estimated capital investment of approximately $10.1 billion for the project.
The proposal is also expected to generate significant employment if the Fort Bend County site is selected. Current filings and reporting indicate the project could support thousands of permanent jobs, along with approximately 1,150 construction jobs during development.
Tesla is not yet committed to the Fort Bend County location. The company said it is evaluating another competing site and that available economic incentives will be a factor in determining where the project is ultimately built.
If the Fort Bend County location is selected and the project moves forward as proposed, commercial operations are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2029.
The project would represent another major expansion of Tesla-related manufacturing activity in Texas as the company continues investing in energy and advanced manufacturing operations across the state.
