Hays County, TX — A two-day multi-agency operation targeting registered sex offender compliance resulted in 138 checks and nine active non-compliance investigations across Hays County.
According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, Operation Adam’s Watch was conducted July 21 and 22 in partnership with the Austin Police Department’s Sex Offender Apprehension & Registration Unit, the U.S. Marshals Service Sex Offender Investigation Branch, and the Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registration Program.
The operation coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Adam Walsh Act and focused on high-risk offenders, repeat sex offenders, and individuals suspected of failing to comply with state or federal registration requirements.
Deputies worked alongside U.S. Marshals, DPS troopers, and Austin police officers to conduct compliance checks at registered offenders’ residences and places of employment.
Of the 138 checks completed, authorities said nine have resulted in active non-compliance investigations. Those cases involve offenders who may currently be violating, or may have previously violated, sex offender registration requirements.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said follow-up investigations will determine whether the individuals are compliant or whether warrant affidavits should be pursued.
