McLennan County, TX — A former Connally ISD assistant band director has been indicted on three charges following an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student.

A McLennan County grand jury indicted 23-year-old David Martinez on charges of improper relationship between educator and student, sexual performance by a child, and possession of child pornography.

According to the Lacy Lakeview Police Department, the investigation began after Connally ISD received a tip regarding a possible situation involving Martinez. The case was transferred to Lacy Lakeview police on April 26, with Connally ISD police assisting.

Police said Martinez cooperated with investigators and voluntarily surrendered electronic devices for review. Investigators later obtained a search warrant and allegedly discovered evidence of an intimate relationship that occurred over several months, along with illicit pornographic material involving a person under 18.

Based on the investigation, arrest warrants were issued by Judge Thomas West. Police contacted Martinez's attorney, and Martinez subsequently surrendered to authorities and was booked into the McLennan County Jail.
