Harlingen, TX — A former employee of Valley Cancer Associates has been arrested after investigators allege she embezzled approximately $750,000 from the Harlingen-based cancer clinic over nearly a year.
According to the Harlingen Police Department, detectives launched an investigation after receiving a theft report on May 19, 2026, involving suspected financial fraud by a former employee.
Investigators allege Yuliana Perez diverted company funds into four personal bank accounts between May 2025 and April 2026. Police said the transactions were disguised as legitimate business expenses using vendors the company regularly conducted business with.
The investigation initially uncovered approximately $588,000 in fraudulent transactions. Detectives later expanded the review of financial records, banking documents, and accounting records, ultimately increasing the total alleged loss to approximately $750,000.
On Aug. 4, Harlingen Police detectives, with assistance from the Brownsville Police Department, arrested Perez without incident on an arrest warrant.
The Harlingen Police Department said it remains committed to thoroughly investigating financial crimes and holding those responsible accountable under the law.
