Arlington, TX — A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after a Tarrant County jury convicted him of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a crash that killed a 2-year-old girl.
According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, Tyler Hampton was driving approximately 100 mph on Interstate 20 near Highway 360 in Arlington on Dec. 21, 2021, when he crashed into a pickup truck.
The impact caused the truck to leave the roadway, strike a guardrail and flip into a signal sign post.
Three members of a family inside the pickup were seriously injured. Two-year-old Mi’lania Pierite died from blunt force injuries.
Prosecutors said Hampton told police that earlier in the evening he had consumed three beers and two shots of whiskey at a pool hall before going to his manager’s home and smoking marijuana.
A jury found Hampton guilty of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He was sentenced to:
• 15 years in prison for manslaughter
• 5 years in prison for each aggravated assault count
Following sentencing, Mi’lania’s father described his daughter as a child who loved to sing, act, dance, play basketball and soccer.
The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office credited the Arlington Police Department for its work on the case.
