Chambers County, TX — A 17-year-old has been arrested after investigators linked a series of alleged vandalism incidents in the River Farms subdivision to a group of teenagers.
According to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded during the early morning hours of July 30 to a home in the River Farms subdivision on FM 1409 after a resident reported their back door had been kicked in.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed five individuals, ranging in age from 16 to 17 years old, running through the neighborhood, kicking doors, and trespassing onto private property.
Detectives said they were able to positively identify all five individuals through the course of the investigation.
On August 6, detectives arrested the 17-year-old male they allege was responsible for kicking in the victim’s door. He has been charged with Criminal Trespass of a Habitation and Criminal Mischief. Because of his age, authorities did not release his identity.
Sheriff Brian Hawthorne warned that so-called “door kicking challenges” circulating on social media are not harmless pranks, saying they create fear for families and could lead to dangerous or even deadly situations.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
