Dallas, TX — Dallas ISD Police Officer Justin Jones is in stable condition and continuing to recover after being shot during an incident Thursday morning, according to the Dallas ISD Police Department.

Jones, 39, was previously identified as the officer wounded after stopping to assist a man who had reportedly been walking along LBJ Freeway. The officer transported the man to a nearby Walmart parking lot, where the shooting occurred as Jones was dropping him off.

Jones was shot in the lower torso and transported to Parkland Hospital for emergency treatment.

In an update Thursday evening, Dallas ISD Police confirmed Jones is now stable and continuing his recovery.

The department praised Jones for what it described as extraordinary courage and dedication and thanked the community, fellow law enforcement agencies, and others who have offered support to Jones and his family.

Jones has served with Dallas ISD Police for 16 years and is assigned to W.T. White High School.
