City of Beaumont crews are continuing repairs to a water main break that caused part of the roadway to collapse near the intersection of Central Drive and East Drive early Sunday morning.
A pickup truck entered the damaged area before it could be secured. The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle.
Crews installed a new valve before beginning repairs to the damaged water line. The valve is now in place, and the initial repair is underway. The water line repair is expected to take approximately one and a half hours.
The water system maintained the minimum pressure required by state regulations throughout the incident, so a boil water notice is not required at this time. After the repairs are complete, crews will flush the lines and collect the required bacteriological samples as part of the normal repair process.
The intersection of East Drive and Central Drive will remain closed until all infrastructure repairs are complete. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
The city said it will continue providing updates as repairs progress.
