More Than 27,000 Hidalgo County Residents Without Power as Severe Storm Moves Through Valley

More than 27,000 Hidalgo County residents were without power as a severe thunderstorm brought strong winds, lightning and heavy rain to the Rio Grande Valley.

More than 27,000 Hidalgo County residents were without power as a severe thunderstorm moved through the Rio Grande Valley.

AEP Texas reported 11,482 customers without power, while Magic Valley Electric Co-op reported 16,334 outages.

The outages came as a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Hidalgo County through 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2.

According to the First Warn 5 Weather Team, the storm was producing frequent thunder and lightning, brief but very strong winds and heavy downpours.
