A man wanted on an active arrest warrant was arrested after fleeing from a Zavala County sheriff’s sergeant in Crystal City on Saturday evening, Aug. 1, 2026, according to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Keith Delgado was conducting residential patrol along North 6 1/2 Avenue when he recognized Jonathan Lopez. The warrant stemmed from a motor vehicle evasion incident involving Delgado the previous week.
When Delgado stopped to execute the warrant, Lopez fled on foot, jumping several fences and running through nearby residential yards. Delgado pursued Lopez and took him into custody shortly afterward without incident.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lopez said he fled to avoid arrest on the outstanding warrant.
Lopez was transported to the Zavala County Jail and booked on the active warrant and an additional charge of evading arrest or detention on foot.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
