A drowning was reported on the Nueces River near Cooksey Dam in Uvalde County, according to Sheriff Ruben Nolasco.
Uvalde County deputies were assisting TPWD at the scene, Nolasco said in a public warning urging people to use caution in the river. The Crystal City Volunteer Fire Department also warned swimmers that the current was still flowing.
Nolasco said the Nueces River can be unpredictable, with currents, sudden changes in water levels and hidden hazards making conditions more dangerous.
Officials offered the following safety reminders:
- Swim only when conditions are safe and supervision is available.
- Never swim alone.
- Watch children at all times.
- Avoid swimming after heavy rain or when the water appears rough.
